The Galician Wood and Design Cluster (CMD) was established in 2001 at the initiative of companies linked to the wood sector together with the Wood Technology Center (CIS Madeira) and the University of Vigo.
Since its inception, the CMD has brought together companies and agents linked to the entire industrial wood value chain, including companies related to forestry use, sawmills, veneer and board companies, pulp and paper, carpentry and furniture companies, Contract channel, services companies, Technology Centers, engineering and consultancy, prescriptors and Universities.
The turnover of the companies associated with the CMD represents more than 90% of the entire Galician sector turnover.
Currently, it is made up of nearly 50 companies from all over Galicia, with a pioneering wood industry in the development of products at a national and international level, as well as companies that are a benchmark in design and innovation.
On the one hand, the CMD acts as a horizontal link between its partners, promoting cooperation projects at the European, national and regional level, and, on the other hand, as a vertical link between the timber sector and public decision-makers.
The CMD is committed to moving towards a circular economy, moving to the green and digital transition with the aim to achieve a smart and sustainable wood industry. For this reason:
– Acts as an agent for promoting projects of all its associates, collaborating in the development of both sector initiatives and initiatives in the different business areas. – Disseminates business and professional activities carried out by its associates, disseminating actions, studies and activities carried out by those.
– Coordinates institutional relations and acts as an interlocutor with Administrations and Institutions in the search for support for projects and actions of interest to its associates.
– Contributes to improve the qualification and training of associates, promoting, coordinating and teaching courses, seminars and training programs.
– Acts as an instrument for the collection and transmission of information of interest to the companies associated with the Cluster.
– Coordinates, with the media, the dissemination of the purposes of the Cluster, promoting the improvement of the perception of society regarding its activities and associated companies.
– Establish relationships with entities that pursue similar goals (associations, clusters, etc.).
– Collaborates with its technological partner, CIS-Madera, to increase technological training and the level of innovation in product and process of the Cluster associates, promoting the execution of collaborative projects, specific technical training, etc.

The CMD is a business entity with a double Mission:
