THE WOOD INDUSTRY REACHES ITS BEST TURNOVER IN 2021 SINCE THERE ARE RECORDS
• In 2021, the joint turnover of the forestry-wood value chain in Galicia amounted to more than 2,500 million euros, the best figure since there is data, from 2006. • In the community, around 10 million cubic meters of wood are cut annually, distributed in around 45,000 hectares each year, corresponding to 85,000 cadastral references. • 77% of exports are destined for other countries of the European Union. In 2021, Galicia exported close to one million tons of raw wood, concentrating 33% of wood exports and 27% of pulp for the whole of Spain. | • According to the figures in the number of affiliations to the Social Security, the chain of the forestry and wood sector represented the average employment of more than 18,000 people. 48% of wage earners correspond to the wood industry; 25%, with forestry and forest exploitation; 19%, with the manufacture of furniture; and 8%, with the paper industry. • The sector accounts for about 12% of industrial employment in Galicia.
